Hooking up the Charging System!  The charging system on my 56 ford had a generator on it and then I went to a alternator.   I switched over to a alternator by canceling out the wiring that went to the voltage regulator and hooking up the generator wire to the new alternator that I put in.

So that’s where I’ll have to start.  Cancel out the voltage regulator wires and take the biggest wire that was hooked to the generator and go right to the back of the alternator.

Now-

In General a DA plug will have a big red wire and a smaller white one.  Takethe big red one and connect it to the back of the alternator along with the big wire from the generator.   (both wires on the same post)

Now run the white wire back to the ignition switch on the a/c power side.   (If you do not have the white wire hooked up right your truck will keep running)

So you will know if you have it hooked up wrong.

When you think you have it.......go buy a $8.00 charging system checker at auto zone and hook it up.....it will tell you if your charging system is working properly or not.  Again get some help if you need it.
