Here to start with I am no expert on electrical systems. So if you don’t understand what I’m
trying get across.........Please ask an expert!. Also I have to start with what I have. I'm not starting from
scratch........
I do have an exiting system in place.
First I’m using the ignition switch from the 56 ford and also the Ford solenoid. Make sure you have
the battery side of the solenoid hooked up before you start. This will apply power to the
wiring in your truck. My wiring loom was intact in the 56 ford........this would be the time
to upgrade if you feel up to it and have the money.
This is a $9.00 switch you can buy at any auto store. The first thing is to find the power
terminal which should say “Bat” on the ignition switch.   Make sure you have power to that pole using a light
tester.
Then turn the key on (do not try to start the motor) You should have power to the
“accessory” terminal. Now put your light tester on the center
pole and turn the key all the way to crank the motor. Make sure truck is in
neutral)
The light tester should light up.
By doing that you will throw power to the solenoid. If you have a ford the solenoid will
be on the fire wall........a GM solenoid will be right on the starter.
Now let’s go over to the firewall. Here I will explain how the ford solenoid works.

(Your truck will be different)
The battery is hooked up to the pole with the RED Wire on it.  There is also a YELLOW
wire that supplies power to your truck wiring loom. The first smaller pole on the right will go back thru the loom to the
positive side of the coil when the key is in the on position.
The second smaller pole on the solenoid will be activated when you turn the key all the way over to crank the engine.
This wire will cross over the power to the starter. When you release the key of course the starter will disengage.

If your having trouble figuring out your wiring to the coil...........Find a wire that is hot when the key is in the on
position (Not Accessories).
Bring that wire over to the (+) side of the coil. The (-) side of the coil will go to the distributor.

You could do all of the above or use the Ford set up and just run your starter wire down to the GM starter and it should work.
Your truck will probably be a little different.
If your not sure make it a point to ask someone who can come over and help you
go thru this.
