Preparing the frame, engine and drive train!
You may choose to go all out or just make things work, the decision is up to you. I did
just what I had to do. No extra time or money. I’ll make a short list of the things to
do. I'm assuming you
already did a compression test on the motor to make sure
its good before you put it under the truck.
I would clean up the motor, drive train and frame. I used gunk engine cleaner
and a garden hose. Then I painted the frame with rust proofing paint. This would be the time to think
about buying a sand blaster and doing all the motor and frame parts that you would want to repaint. I didn't....no
money. not enough time!)
Also you could:
- Rebuild the brakes
- Brake the bleeder values
- Replace brake lines
- Replaced exhaust manifold gaskets. (a must)
- Paint the engine and replace any gaskets
while it is easy to get to.
- Exhaust System
- U-joints etc.
- Paint hubs etc.
Do it now while it’s easy to get to! I use my truck for:
- Hunting
- Hauling wood
- Two tracking in the woods
- Delivering
furniture
- Snow Plowing
Yes I snow plow with my truck ....it's a 4 x 4 so I use it! This is why I have a truck......depending on what you what ...now
is the time to decide how far you want to go with custom work etc. When you get your classic truck lowered down on the
new frame and decide that everything looks like it's going to work......here's the point where you can decide to do any extra or custom work.
Here's a picture of the 4 x 4 frame sitting next to the 56 ford just before I was getting ready to disassemble the
56 and slide the Scout II under it.
